Editorial Standards

Wacky Inventions covers strange products, but our recommendations are made with a straightforward, consistent process. Here’s how we work.

How we choose products

For every buyer’s guide, we start with a specific reader problem (“I want my coffee to stay hot,” “I can’t sleep on planes”). We then identify real, currently-available products that address it, with a bias toward the unusual, over-engineered, or oddly-specific — because that’s our beat. We prioritize products with a track record: established brands, substantial review counts, and a clear use case. We exclude vaporware, scams, and items that aren’t actually for sale.

How we evaluate

  • Does it solve the stated problem? A product earns a spot only if it does the job it claims to.
  • Is it honestly described? We note real limitations and downsides, not just benefits.
  • Is it worth the money? We flag when a cheaper or simpler alternative would do.
  • Who is it actually for? We name the specific buyer who’d benefit, and tell everyone else to skip it.

Accuracy & corrections

Product details, prices, and availability change. We aim for accuracy at time of writing and update guides when we learn something is wrong. Spotted an error? Tell us via the Contact page and we’ll fix it.

Affiliate independence

We earn commissions on some Amazon links, but commissions never influence whether a product is included or how we rate it. We’ve featured plenty of products precisely to warn people away from them.
